  Our dining experience on New Year's Eve would be best described by a sports announcer offering a play-by-play. The Aura team was poised for two seatings on this festive occasion but they fumbled repeatedly and didn't score at the first seating, unfortunately, we were at the first seating.

  Dessert was the shining moment of our evening and we wanted to relax a bit and get an after dinner drink but because everything took so long, we were not permitted to linger, the next seating was arriving.

  Also, all of this time, there was a very young child at the next table and she was in a horrid mood and screamed out at least 5 times throughout the meal. I have kids and if they behaved that way, I would have removed them from the dining room. I was going to scream if the kid screamed again but her dad gave her a phone to look at and she stopped screaming. The parents did apologize and we had a nice conversation with them after all but the screaming was like salt in the wounds.

  We moved to the bar to find that there was a dinner menu and music. We could have saved the painful experience (and probably some money) and eaten there, my bad for not doing my research.

  Finally, our food was cold and no sides and then the wine person (not really ever sure who that was) came back with the wine and we told her about our food issues.

  The issues began almost immediately. We were actually the first people to be seated in our section and while we were offered the cocktail menu and a wine list, the wine list was almost immediately taken away from us. We ordered two cocktails and waited for the wine list to be returned. No return. The waitress had also taken our food order with our cocktail order. We received our soup but still hadn't received our cocktails. We could see all of the tables around us had drinks, it was frustrating. We were going to cancel the cocktails but just before we could flag down our waitress, they arrived. So we drank our cocktails with our soup. Not the end of the world but annoying. When our waitress returned to our table, she asked if we wanted to order wine. We said we would but we never got the wine list back so we couldn't. She repeatedly blamed the bar for the issues with the drinks.

  I really want to like this place, the staff was very courteous (despite all of the fumbles) but something was terribly off. Check out the reviews on Open Table before you make your decision, I wish I had paid more attention and done some more research. Many of the comments on Open Table match our experience. I spent most of the time during our meal thinking I survived 2017, I can survive this it was not a great experience.

  So, if you are still reading this, I would say, on a slow night, you might try Aura, perhaps you will have better luck than we did, or you just might find a cozy table in the bar and enjoy your evening.

  We had their Canada 150 special 3 course dinner. I was thoroughly impressed their speed of service and the quality of their food. My husband and I had mussels and terrine for starter, steak and salmon for entree, then dark chocolate and tropical fruit for dessert. Every single course was excellent, and overall it was one of the best meals I've had. You would not expect world class cuisine at a little lake-side lodge, but that's exactly what we got. Definitely would love to return.

  Great food. Mediocre service. We had a really nice breakfast here siting by the Lake. They made us wait half an hour before we could order our food and apologised for the slow service ... there were only 2 other tables with guests in the restaurant but we decided to ignore that and just enjoy the view.
